The Visions of JEREMIAH

SCRIPTURE TEXTS: Jeremiah 1:1-19

Second of the three major “writing prophets” of the Old Testament, Jeremiah provided us some of the most memorable assurances of God’s word throughout the ages (see, for example Jer 17:9-10; 29:11; & 31:3). Yet, like all of us, Jeremiah started out as a youth uncertain of his abilities. Yet the Lord said to him, “Do not say, 'I am [just] a youth,' because everywhere I send you, you shall go, & all that I command you, you shall speak” (Jer 1:7). In the first chapter of his book, Jeremiah relates two visions from God that once again indicate coming judgment of the Lord against wickedness & the coming blessings of God’s grace to His people—vision & provision from the Lord of lords.
